Spring has sprung and
the beats are booming!!!

As the weather heats up, so do the festivities, becoming more extravagant and exciting as we approach the end of 2012 and head into the new year.

September kicked off with our second medal night - Forest Fantasy. This annual event is something that Dalena and I take great pride in presenting. It is an opportunity for our students to showcase their hard work and to invite their families and friends along to celebrate with them.

It takes courage to perform in front of an audience and everyone did an exceptional job. We had a vast array of performances to entertain the crowd, ranging from a bridal dance to a bodybuilding pose routine and everything in between.

Well-deserved congratulations go to Cheryl Bastow (Gold Paso Doble & Samba), Mike Corral (Bodybuilding Pose routine), David & Rani Janovic (Bridal Dance), Christine CJ Johnson (Salsa showcase), Sandy Ko (Gold Jive & Samba), Rhonda Korda (Gold Star Rumba, Samba & Cha Cha) and Jodi Thrun (Gold Salsa, Merengue and Street Cha).

David and Rani were married the week after the medal night and their dance was a fun and entertaining performance that reflected their personalities. They were a lovely couple to teach and we wish them a fantastic future together.

Mike Corral competed in his first bodybuilding comp on 16th September and placed third out of one of the largest fields. He competed again on the 30th September performing his pose routine and was awarded the 'Best Pose Routine'. Overall he came 4th which is a champion effort. Congratulations Mike!!

On the wedding front - Dalena and I performed a contemporary routine at another lovely couple's wedding. We had the fun, yet challenging task of re-creating and learning this routine which was originally performed on the U.S. series of 'So You Think You Can Dance'. The challenge was evident right at the beginning as we had to re-work and re-create the heavily edited music. Luckily Dalena is an editing wizard!!

Dalena's challenge didn't end with the music. She then had the task of teaching me the routine - now that's a test of anybody's patience! However we survived and this contemporary performance turned out to be an excellent partnering experience for us. It made us move differently together and connect in a way that was unfamiliar to us in our regular dance style.

In the end we mastered the performance and can happily report that the bride was thrilled with it, having posted a lovely message for us on Facebook. This made our month!

On another note, our Latin Heat production is stepping up a notch. We have two routines done and have been lucky enough to have Karla Gerbes (Professional Australian Latin Champion and international competitor) coach the crew in some finer details of Paso Doble. Another talented teacher, Shannon from Circus Trick Tease has coached the team with lifts and tricks.

We cannot wait to wow the crowds with our new show but in the meantime, more hard work is ahead of us.
