Let's go to Brazil in the heart of Melbourne!

This month we finish producing our second season of "Latin Heat" at Rio's Brazilian restaurant. It has been so exciting developing the show, adding routines, extending sections and deleting scenes. We changed the concept from being based around a love triangle to good versus evil. This has been a great learning experience for us to see what is effective, how to direct a dancer to portray the role you require and how to add a surprise element to the show.Latin Heat Show

I'm most proud of our Paso Doble scene as we get to showcase the passion we have for dance. We introduced a massive cloth (like a circus performance silk) that drops from the ceiling and extended our matador cape section to give more visual sensations. The group stands alone as the only show in Melbourne that has Latin and Brazilian dancing.

Being even more involved in lighting and props is something that we are looking into for the future.

I have completely immersed myself into our Latin show and really love working on it, bringing new concepts and layering to all aspects of the performance. I have some exciting ideas of where our next production will go - stay tuned for what visual delight we have installed for you!

As we were working on producing the show, we also had our National DanceSport Championship (The Aussies). After winning our last comp we felt good but knew how hard we needed to work and extend ourselves. We placed 7th which was a disappointing result but it only builds character and has given us a new determination to fight for the win by showing that we are committed to perfecting our dancing and taking it to another level.

We are motivated for the coming year and look forward to the challenge.

Variety is the spice of life and that's why I love that my job is so multi-dimensional. I was completely thrilled with how well my students performed at a showcase ball. Their performances included a contemporary solo, retro duo, tango and just to keep it interesting, lots of lifts and tricks.

Even though it feels like HD focus on a lot of different things, I wouldn't want it any other way as I can't explain how happy it makes me to see my students dance more openly and expressively with harder content all the time. I am a very proud teacher!

As it is the festive season we also performed at corporate and private events. Holly and Dalena were stunning samba dancers at a Christmas function where they were simply beautiful and were a joy to watch. The guests were definitely feeling the festive cheer.

The HD Crew also finished off the year with a Bollywood, Retro and Latin Performance at the Oorja New Year's Eve event. That definitely was a variety show!

On January 4th Latin Heat opens at Rio's. No time to rest, let's dance amigos!

Captivate. Dance. Ignite.
